Huangshan city's tourism market bounces back

Tourist attractions in Huangshan city, Anhui province have seen the number of tourists increase significantly in January, indicating its tourism market is really picking up as the Spring Festival holiday draws near.

The Huangshan Mountain Scenic Area received 14,100 visitors alone on Jan 16, setting a record for the number of people entering on a daily basis in January in the past five years.

Since Jan 1, the number of tourists received at Huangshan city's 5A-level scenic spots has increased by 271 percent compared with the same period last year and is up 57 percent compared with the same period in 2019.

The city has been ramping up its efforts to attract more visitors. For example, the municipal government held a tourism promotions conference on Jan 4 in Yixian county and handed out coupons worth 2 million yuan ($295,142) and other market promotions to boost spending.

What's more, a wide variety of activities are being held in the city, ranging from mountain climbing to dragon dance performances, to generate more celebration vibes.

By Jan 11, Spring Festival travel bookings had increased by more than 60 percent year-on-year, according to figures released by the online travel agency Fliggy.
