The life science industry base of Thermo Fisher Scientific, a world leader in serving science, will be put into use in Suzhou New District this year.
The facility will be the company's biggest life sciences industry base in the Asia-Pacific region.
The base, which has an initial investment of $50 million, is expected to be used to host manufacturing centers for vitro diagnostic products and biomedical products, such as in vitro diagnostic reagents, cell culture media, plastic consumables for biopharmaceuticals, and other life sciences related consumables, as well as various products customized for the Chinese market.
Thermo Fisher Scientific is a global top 500 company with an annual revenue exceeding $40 billion. Its China innovation centers in Shanghai and Suzhou have over 100 professional researchers, as well as more than 100 patents.
Thermo Fisher (Suzhou) Instruments Co, the company's largest branch in China, was founded in the SND in 2011. It mainly produces laboratory appliances and consumables, as well as reagents used for gene synthesis and in vitro diagnosis.
In 2020, Thermo Fisher's Suzhou Plant, which covers 13,000 square meters and cost over $10 million to build, was put into operation in SND. The plant created a manufacturing base for disposable bio-technological containers, the first of its kind deployed by Thermo Fisher in its Asian Pacific branches.
