Suzhou New District launched a series of preferential policies on May 12 to support the development of Su embroidery, a national intangible cultural heritage.
Highlights of the policies include the building of a multi-tiered talent cultivation system, implementing specific measures to foster cooperation between schools and the government, career training, on-the-job training, and study trips.
For example, studios and enterprises establishing public training bases that have been recognized by the local government will be awarded a one-time subsidy of 200,000 yuan ($314,000).
Strengthening the brand building of Su embroidery is also on the agenda.
To do so, the district will encourage local studios and enterprises to go digital and a digital brand base for the industry will be built. This base will include a public service center, an e-commerce livestream center, a digital creativity center, a testing and certification center, and an experience center.
Local studios and enterprises are also encouraged to go global, and their participation in national and international events will be awarded. Furthermore, if their new investments amount to 10 million yuan, they will receive a maximum of 5 million yuan, or up to 10 percent of their actual investment, in financial support.
SND is also encouraging the creation of original embroidery works and will ensure the sound development of the Su embroidery industry.
SND had cultivated over 8,400 embroiders as of 2020. The district's annual sales revenue for Su embroidery was over 1 billion yuan last year.
