On September 4, 1958, the One Hundredth Meeting of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress decided to approve the declaration of the government of People's Republic of China on China's territorial sea.
The law was adopted at the 24th Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Seventh National People's Congress on February 25, 1992, and was promulgated by Order No. 55 of the President of the People's Republic of China on February 25, 1992, and effective as of the date of promulgation.
The law was adopted at the 3rd Meeting of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress and was promulgated and came into force on the date of June 26, 1998.
