Forging Ahead Toward the Goal of Building a Great Country and Rejuvenating the Nation

The year 2024 marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and a crucial year for fulfilling the goals and tasks outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025). The new year ahead is full of challenges, and also full of hope with bright prospects.

Upholding high-quality development as the fundamental principle of the new era. From “development is the absolute principle” to regarding high-quality development as the “fundamental principle of the new era,” it is a strategic choice made to respect the economic laws, follow the development trend, effectively prevent and defuse major risks and meet challenges, and gain the upper hand in future competition. High-quality development is an inevitable requirement for solving the problem of unbalanced and inadequate development, continuously meeting the people’s ever-growing needs for a better life, and comprehensively advancing the building of a great country and achieving national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization. China should focus on the central task of economic development, fully and faithfully apply the new development philosophy on all fronts, speed up building the new development paradigm. Meanwhile, solid efforts should be made to promote self-reliance and strength in high-level science and technology, increase economic vitality, prevent and defuse risks, improve social expectations, and consolidate and strengthen the momentum of economic resilience.

Bearing in mind that advancing Chinese modernization is of utmost political importance. Building China into a great country and achieving national rejuvenation through Chinese modernization is the central task of the whole Party and the people of all ethnic groups in the new era, and it is also the solemn historical responsibility of the contemporary Chinese Communists. To uphold this “foremost politics”, it is imperative to pursue development wholeheartedly and by every possible means, pioneer and go all-out with great endeavor and dedication, meet challenges head-on and overcome difficulties, stay realistic and pragmatic, and do our work in a down-to-earth manner. In so doing, the major decisions and arrangements made at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China will be implemented to the letter step by step.

Continuously boosting confidence and strengthening solidarity for common endeavor. In times of difficulty, confidence is more precious than gold, and unity is the key to victory. Through striving in unity, the CPC has led the people to make historic achievements. Overall, the favorable conditions for China’s development outweigh the unfavorable factors. The Chinese economy enjoys strong resilience,  potential and vitality. The fundamentals sustaining long-term economic growth remain unchanged. Therefore, the difficulties China faces are the problems that have arisen in the course of its development, which will be solved in the process of continuously promoting high-quality development and advancing Chinese modernization.
