Construction on the 1-billion-yuan ($143-million) Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Logistics Park near the Hongwan Interchange started on Sept 13, with the park also beginning its efforts to attract investment by luring prestigious logistics enterprises.

With total floorage of 143,100 sqm (35 acres), the park will be built in two phases. Phase I of the project has floorage of 38,800-sqm (9.6 acres) and will include import supervision and bonded warehouses, as well as customs supervision sites. It is expected to start initial operation in the first quarter of 2023. Phase II of the project is estimated to start operation in early 2024 and will include a unique logistics park that will benefit from the two first-level national road checkpoints of Gongbei Checkpoint and Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Zhuhai Port in the vicinity.

It takes only one hour for vehicles to access Hong Kong from the park via the HZMB's link line in the east. It connects with Zhuhai (Jinwan) Airport, Zhuhai Port, and Zhuhai West Station in the east via the Jinhai Avenue Bridge and Huangmao Sea Channel. It is also close to the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin and Macao in the south, while cities on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary are accessible via the Guangzhou-Zhuhai West Expressway.

The park will have a comprehensive building, three integrated high-standard warehouses with double-deck ramps, one single high-standard warehouse with double-deck ramps, and supporting customs inspection facilities. Of note, the integrated high-standard warehouses with double-deck ramps in the park are the first of their kind in Zhuhai and will be used to store aviation cargo for e-commerce, as well as electronic component parts. Cargo will be able to go through rapid customs inspection at the park before efficiently crossing the border via the HZMB .

Innovative customs clearance policies will be available in Phase II of the park to give full play to the integrated development of HZMB Zhuhai Port and the park.

Zhuhai Mayor Huang Zhihao said at the groundbreaking ceremony that the park is situated in the important area of the extension line of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, which is a major base for deepening cooperation among the three regions. Zhuhai is now building the HZMB into a new economic and trade corridor, which will facilitate closer industrial cooperation and trade exchanges with Hong Kong, Macao, as well as cities on the west bank of the Pearl River Estuary like Zhongshan, Jiangmen, and Yangjiang.

Yan Zhuojin, chairman of the park's constructor Zhuhai Huichang Transportation Investment, said that self-owned fleets, loading staff members, as well as customized hardware and software services will be available in the park. The warehouse costs in the park will be only one fifth of that in Hong Kong, turning the park into a low-cost logistics hub with advantageous location in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Zhuhai Party Chief Lyu Yuyin, senior officials Wu Shi and Li Chong, and Grade-1 director of Gongbei Customs He Hongkai attended the Sept 13 groundbreaking ceremony.
