Zhuhai Museum is now exhibiting 39 historic murals from the Qiuci Grottoes in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region through Sept 15.

Hosted by Zhuhai Museum and the Culture Museum of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the exhibition aims to showcase the folk customs of the ancient Silk Road depicted in the Qiuci Grottoes' murals.

Apart from murals, exhibits collected by the Kuqa Folk Museum in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region showcase local folk customs in modern and contemporary history. Pictures of a contemporary clothing series designed by teachers and students of the Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology are also on display to reveal how the Qiuci Grottoes' murals have been innovatively incorporated in modern life.

Qiuci culture is the crystallization of cultural exchanges of the ancient Silk Road and has posed profound influence on the development of China's grotto art, including the millennium-old Mogao Grottoes.

Art forms spanning architecture, paintings, dance, acrobatics, and clothing were portrayed vividly in the murals of Qiuci Grottoes along with depictions of hunting, planting, pottery, and even disaster relief.
