Crossings at Gongbei Checkpoint rose 5 percent year-on-year to over 3 million during the Oct 1-7 National Day holiday, accounting for more than one-fifth of China's overall inbound and outbound border passages.

Oct 5 alone saw a single-day traffic flow peak of 474,800, only second to the record 481,300 crossings on May 2. Average daily flow reached 430,000, according to the Gongbei Checkpoint.

Golden Week celebration activities across the country for the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China contributed to the soaring number of travelers. A closer tie among Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area members and easier customs clearance also contributed to the growth.

To date, Gongbei Checkpoint has processed 110 million individual travelers this year, an increase of 8.6 percent over the same period in 2018. The volume is expected to climb for the Halloween and Christmas holidays.
