Gongbei Checkpoint is bracing for an average daily flow of 437,000 border crossings during the June 7-9 Dragon Boat Festival (Duanwu Jie) holiday -- 15 percent more than the holiday period last year.

On one hand, the volume may increase inasmuch as the holiday overlaps Macao's Tung Ng Festival (Dragon Boat Festival) on June 7, but on the other, it may not rise too significantly while the national college entrance examination, or gaokao, is a factor.

Daily peak is forecast to occur on Saturday, June 8. Outbound trips will be mostly made between 8 am and 1 pm, while most inbound traffic will be between 4 and 8 pm. Travelers are advised to avoid these periods and to use self-service inspection channels.
