Hengqin Island (Hengqin New Area)

The most news-generating and fastest developing of the 10 major islands of Zhuhai, Hengqin is the largest, covering 106.46 sq km. It is connected to Macao by the cross-border Lotus Bridge, and to the city’s urban area by the Hengqin Bridge.

The development plan of Hengqin New Area was worked out in December 2008. In April 2015, the Hengqin Free Trade Zone was set up, initiating construction of a demonstration area for cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. The full-fledged Shizimen Central Business District and Chimelong International Ocean Tourist Resort have become hot business and tourist spots on the island.
