Updated: Aug 21, 2026

Yunnan University (YNU)'s School of Life Sciences hosted a national joint international field research program in biological sciences in Yunnan from July 20 to 31.

More than 70 faculty members and students from universities, including Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, Nankai University and Xiamen University, as well as the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom and the University of Washington in the United States, took part in the 12-day program, conducting biodiversity field research and academic activities along two routes in Xishuangbanna and Tengchong.

With a focus on the origins, evolution, and diversity of life, the Xishuangbanna route took participants into dry-hot valleys and tropical rainforests, where they conducted biodiversity monitoring and collected environmental DNA samples. The Tengchong route passed through Chuxiong and Dali, focusing on surveys of fungi, protected plants, and rare and endangered primates.

Participants also visited the former site of Southwest Associated University and the Cai Xitao Memorial Hall to learn about past scientific contributions. Through fieldwork across diverse habitats, they also gained a deeper understanding of Yunnan's rich biodiversity.

Now in its fourth year, the program has further strengthened academic collaboration among universities and promoted exchanges between young people from China and other countries.
