The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) recently announced the winners of the 2023 IEC 1906 Awards. Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) alumnus Zhang Zhigang was awarded the 2023 IEC 1906 Award for his outstanding contributions as the project leader for IEC TC100, overseeing the development of the first international standard for health displays, IEC 63207:2022 "Measurement methods of blue light characteristics and related optical performance for visual display terminals."

Zhang studied electronic science and technology at the School of Electronic and Information Engineering, XJTU from 2002 to 2005 and earned his Ph.D. He is currently a professor-level senior engineer and serves as the company's chief expert in standards and directing.

He has led the formulation of over 10 IEC and ITU international standards and over 40 national/industry standards. Additionally, he has been involved in the revision of more than 250 international and domestic standards.

The "IEC 1906 Award", conferred annually, is one of the most prestigious awards presented by the IEC. Established by the IEC Executive Committee in commemoration of the IEC's founding in 1906, the award is meant to recognize the outstanding contributions of technical experts from various countries to international electro-technical standardization within the IEC.
