The 2023 International Design Engineering Technical Conference & Computers and Information in Engineering Conference recently kicked off in Boston, the United States.

The events were organized by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

This saw the unveiling of the official list of newly elected Fellows, and Professor Chen Guimin from the School of Mechanical Engineering at Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) was among the honorees.

Prof Chen serves as the director of the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems. His primary research focus lies in compliant mechanisms and rigid and soft robots. He is a recipient of the ASME Compliant Mechanisms Award, and has been selected for national-level talent programs.

His proposed methods for modeling compliant mechanisms and mechanism configurations have been adopted and highly praised by scholars from over 40 countries and regions, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Australia, Ireland, Italy and Japan.

Established in 1880, the ASME is an international nonprofit educational and academic organization that boasts nearly 100,000 members worldwide.

The Fellow grade of membership recognizes exceptional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession as well as to ASME.

It represents the highest level of membership, and the selection process is highly rigorous, with the number of awardees each year not exceeding one-thousandth of the total membership. Currently, there are just over 3,000 ASME Fellows worldwide.
