XJTU alumnus elected member of National Academy of Engineering

Liu Yaoqi, an alumnus of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), was announced to be a member of the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) for his contributions to the development and commercialization of multilayer polymeric optical film products, and for championing innovation globally.

Liu completed his bachelor's degree and doctoral degree at XJTU. He has more than 20 years of work experience at 3M, a world-leading conglomerate, mainly responsible for the development and commercialization of multilayer polymer optical film technology and products.

Liu has obtained 27 patents in the United States. He is now the chief technology officer of James Hardie Industries, the world's largest producer of fiber cement products.

The National Academy of Engineering is the highest-level of academic institution in the field of engineering technology in the United States. Election to the National Academy of Engineering is one of the highest professional honors for experts in the field of engineering.

Founded in 1964, the NAE is a private, independent, nonprofit institution that provides engineering leadership in service. Election to the NAE is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer.
