XJTU professor named first Chinese chief editor of top international mechanical journal

Yan Ruqiang, a professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), is the first Chinese scholar to serve as chief editor of IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement.

Yan Ruqiang, professor of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), has been appointed as chief editor of IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, becoming the first Chinese to take up the role since the journal's inception.

Yan is director of XJTU’s International Mechanical Center, a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and works in the field of intelligent operation and maintenance of major equipment. 

The appointment was approved by the Administrative Committee of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society. 

Yan is currently the vice-president of the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society, and the only Chinese scholar on the 11-member executive committee of the institute.

The journal is the flagship journal of IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society and also the top international journal in the instrument and measurement technology field. 

It features papers on theory, methodology, and practice pertaining to the measurement, design, development and evaluation of instrumentation and measurement systems.
