Guan Xiaohong, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of the Department of Information and Communications Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) 

Guan Xiaohong, an academician at the Chinese Academy of Sciences and professor of the Department of Information and Communications Engineering of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), was nominated as a "Model of Teaching and Educating" by the Education Department of the Shaanxi Provincial Government. 

Guan has always been on the front line of teaching and educating. He insists on teaching graduate degree courses in English, instructing graduate students on how to use English terminology that is commonly used in international academic circles to write international journal and conference papers, introducing the conventions and rules of international academic circles, and discussing cultural differences between the East and the West.

While teaching, he led a team to propose new theories and innovative methods for system optimization, physical security and information security for networked systems, such as energy, electricity and the internet.

His team has solved a number of recognized problems and  has made systemic innovations. Their efforts have helped improve efficiency and ensure safety of energy and power.

He has been named as an outstanding tutor of graduate education at XJTU and a national excellent doctoral dissertation supervisor, as well as won Shaanxi Province teaching achievement and national teaching achievement honors.
