Xin Xia, a newly elected fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU)

Xin Xia, director of the Nursing Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU), was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (AAN), one of just 21 new fellows in a recently released list.

Xin has stuck to her post for 38 years as a nurse. From the clinical front-line to the management position, she always follows the needs of patients as the guide and focuses on patient health. Through in-depth research and innovation, she has carried out her original aspirations and dreams with outstanding results.

Being nominated a Fellow of the AAN is considered one of the highest honors in the nursing field of the US and one of the most prestigious honors worldwide.

The nomination of new AAN fellows launches in October every year. Candidates must be recommended by two current fellows of the academy, and a Fellow Nomination Committee then reviews the evidence of their remarkable contribution to nursing and human health. The list of newly-nominated fellows and international fellows of the previous year is released approximately in June of the following year.

As the leader of nursing discipline in the First Affiliated Hospital of XJTU, the election of Xin is another critical step forward in enhancing the influence of the hospital’s nursing discipline and contributes to the establishment of a national medical center.

Since its foundation in 1973 the AAN has aimed at attracting global talents to guide progress in the nursing discipline, participate in the formulation and implementation of health security policies, and utilize nursing knowledge to promote human health. 

At present, more than 2,700 fellows of AAN have been nominated around the world. They serve as hospital administrators, clinical experts and scientific researchers and have outstanding achievements in the fields of nursing education, management, practice, research and policy.
