On July 2, Xi'an Jiaotong University (XJTU) held a meeting to sum-up online exchange activities collaborated on with the University of Liverpool.

Wang Shuguo, President of XJTU, Xi Guang, Vice-President of XJTU, Dame Janet Beer, Vice-Chancellor at the University of Liverpool, Wiebe van der Hoek and Louise Kenny, Executive Pro-Vice-Chancellors at the University of Liverpool, Dinah Birch and Anthony Hollander, Pro-Vice-Chancellors at the University of Liverpool, and Simon Yates, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor, participated in the meeting.

At the meeting, both sides held several academic forums involving clean energy, global health, aerospace, advanced manufacturing, sustainable energy, cultural heritage, management and other fields, as well as three policy seminars covering school-enterprise cooperation, doctoral student training, and undergraduate training.

Representatives summarized the main content of the forums, and reported the phased cooperation intentions and results achieved by both parties to the participants.

On behalf of both universities, Wang and Beer expressed their congratulations on the success of this series of online exchange activities, and expressed their heartfelt thanks to the Chinese Consulate General in Manchester, the British Consulate-General in Shanghai, and the China Scholarship Council for their support.

Wang said that the convening of this series of conferences was an important cooperation seminar for the two universities in the post-epidemic era, and a commitment to jointly face the new global challenges and opportunities brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Wang believes that from academic research to school management, this series of meetings has set up a new cooperation platform for colleagues in related fields, and will surely promote the two schools to work together in a new chapter of cooperation.

Wang expressed his hopes that experts and scholars in related fields from both parties can make an in-depth summary, continue to promote pragmatic cooperation, and make new contributions to the promotion of the two schools' career development as well as Sino-British educational exchanges.

Beer said that the three-week series of meetings had achieved fruitful results across several areas such as cultural heritage, clean energy, global health, government-industry-university-research cooperation, and the construction of the University Alliance of the Silk Road, helping the two sides find a new point of cooperation.

In her speech, Beer said that all colleagues at the University of Liverpool are full of confidence in the cooperation with XJTU in this new era and hope that the two universities will enjoy new developments and a long-lasting friendship.

Heads of the XJTU Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, the School of Electrical Engineering, the School of Management, the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, the National Technology Transfer Center, and the Global Health Institute all delivered speeches at the event.

The meeting was co-chaired by Xi and Birch with over 800 teachers and students from both universities attending via video link.
