On October 16, 2020, Science Advances published a paper collaboratively written by Professor Cheng Hai's team of the Institute of Global Environmental Change of XJTU and Professor Ashish Sinha of California State University. The article, A multi-Millennium climatic context, for the megafaunal extinctions in Madagascar and Mascarene Islands, provides a reliable climate change background for the extinction of large animals in Madagascar and the Mascarene Islands in the southwest Indian Ocean and reveals the devastating impact of human activities on the unique local ecology under the arid climate background of severe climatic shocks.
