China's Long March 5B carrier rocket made its debut flight at 18:00 on May 5, 2020, thrusting China's new-generation manned spacecraft and experimental cargo retrieval craft into low-Earth orbit. In the manned spacecraft, China conducted its first 3D printing experiment using a newly developed device named Space-based Composite Material 3D Printing System, marking a first in human history. This 3D printer was jointly developed and built by researchers from XJTU and the Beijing Spacecrafts Manufacturing Factory. Employing carbon fiber-reinforced composites to autonomously print objects, the printer features advanced technology in material modeling, precision control, and automation. The experiment marked the beginning of 3D printing studies in space.
