“Internet plus”has been deeply implemented in every social aspect, including the health industry, with various online health communities emerging. However, the functions and mechanism of these platforms for chronic disease management remain unknown. XJTU's lecturer, Liu Xiaoxiao, and his research team researched “The Effects of Participating in a Physician-driven Online Health Community in Managing Chronic Disease”based on evidence from two experiments. They found that the physician-driven online health communitiescan facilitate patient-physician collaborative care and self-management support,“which may improve patient well-being and patient-physician relationships”. These findings have important implications for self-managing chronic diseases and health care policy making.

The results were published in MIS Quarterly.
