From June 13 to 15, 2018, President Wang Shuguo led a delegation to visit the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (HKPU) where he had a talk with president Timothy W.Tong. Both parties expressed their hopes on expanding and deepening research cooperation, encouraging research teams from both universities to find solutions to domestic and international key issues from an international perspective. President Wang also visited the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), where he and CUHK officers witnessed the plaque unveiling ceremony of the Chinese University of Hong Kong – Xi'an Jiaotong University Joint Research Center on Migration.

On the morning of June 14, 2018, president Wang met with HKPU vice-president Alexander Wai and discussed about the details in future cooperation. In the afternoon, president Wang met HKPU Board Chairman Mr. Ignatius Chan Tze-ching, they both are looking forward to the strengthened cooperation related to the “Belt and Road Initiative”.

On June15, 2018, president Wang exchanged his views with CUHK president Rocky S. Tuan. Both parties reached a consensus that XJTU and CUHK would expand future cooperation for making more contributions to the country. XJTU and CUHK decided to establish the CUHK–XJTU Joint Research Center on Migration based on the advantages of both universities, focusing on the major demand of the society and national development in medium and long-term plan of the nation. A research institution and think-tank with international significance will also be established by the two universities.
