XJTU professor appointed to be an ICSID conciliator

According to the latest official news of the International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), a world's leading institution devoted to international investment dispute settlement,nine people from China are among the newly appointed arbitrators and conciliators of the ICSID. Professor Shan Wenhua, Assistant to the President of XJTU, was appointed as the conciliator of ICSID for a term of 6 years.

Professor Shan Wenhua graduated with a doctoral degree in law from the University of Cambridge, UK. Among his multiple titles, he is Assistant to the President of XJTU, the Dean of School of Law of XJTU, an honorary vice president of the Academy of Case Studies of the Supreme People's Court, Senior Fellow of the Lauterpacht Center for International Law at the University of Cambridge, chief editor of the Chinese Journal of Comparative Law of Oxford University Press, and the ICSID Conciliator appointed by the Chinese government.

According to the provisions of ICSID Convention, each contracting member state may assign four arbitrators and four conciliators from its own country, and the Chairman of the Administrative Council may assign ten arbitrators and ten conciliators. These provisions state that conciliators and arbitrators should be those who are of high morality and have recognized professional competence in the fields of law, commerce, industry or finance. Conciliators and arbitrators servee a term of six years, and are allowed to be reappointed.
