On August 19, 2017, the Ninth JTU Global Alumni Business Leader Summit was held in Xi'an. University leaders of the five "Jiaotong" universities in China and more than 230 alumni gathered together to attend the grand conference. The five “Jiaotong” universities include Xi'an Jiaotong University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Southwest Jiaotong University, Beijing Jiaotong University, and National Chiao Tung University at Taiwan.

The JTU Global Alumni Business Leader Summit is initiated by the Jiaotong University Alumni Association at North America and the 5 "Jiaotong" universities, and is held every two years and organized by one of the 5 Jiaotong Universities and the Jiaotong University Alumni Association at North America.

The summit this year focused on 5 topics: “ ‘the Belt and Road Initiative’ and University Education”, “‘Internet Plus’ and the Upgrading of the Industrial Structure”, “Sustainable Development and Energy Utilization”, “Financial Investment in Innovation-driven Process” and “Development and Promotion of Cultural Resources of ‘the Belt and Road’”.

During the summit, part of the alumni visited the Western China Science &Technology Innovation Harbour and the Administrative Committee of the Xixian New Area, while others had a XJTU tour and visited the Beilin District. They also discussed about the projects for cooperation and development.

At the summit, XJTU and Western Power Industrial Co., Ltd. signed a "Partnership Agreementfor XJTU New Material Venture Capital Investment (Limited)".

Over 40 XJTU alumni attended The First World Xi'an Entrepreneurs Convention. XJTU alumni Zhou Hongyi, Zhang Yalin, Yin Jianan were named as the "Most Influential Xi’an Entrepreneurs". In addition, Gui Shengyue and Yan Jianbo were granted the title "Outstanding Xi’an Entrepreneurs ".
