On September 11, XJTU President Wang Shuguo met Dr. John Plummer, the senior editor-in-chief of Nature. Dean Sun Jun and associate dean Shan Zhiwei of School of Materials Science and Engineering as well as Director Liang Li of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges also attended the meeting.

President Wang Shuguo showed his warm welcome to Dr. John Plummer. He introduced the building of XJTU Western China Science and Technology Innovation Harbor. If completed, he further mentioned, the harbor would house 23 research institutes, 20,000 professors and researchers and the largest scientific research platform. Dr. John Plummer demonstrated his appreciation for XJTU research strength.

In the afternoon, Dr. John Plummer visited the State Key Lab for Metal Materials Strength and the Micro-Nano Materials Research Center, and met the faculty and students.
