A research overview Recent Advances in Electrospun Nanofibrous Scaffolds for Cardiac Tissue Engineering by XJTU Bio-Inspired Engineering and Bio-Mechanics Center has been published in Advanced Functional Materials (the impact factor in 2014 was 11.805).

The paper made a systematic summary of electrospun preparations applied in cardiac tissue enginnering in recent years in the aspects of nano-fibrous composition, texture, structure control, use of functional additive, and electrophysiological enhancement etc. It demonstrated the advantage of electrospun materials in mimicking the internal microcontext of cardiac tissues.

The paper elaborated that electrospun could facilitate the decomposition of cell aggregation, and enable functional protein expression, serial cardiac tissue formation and cardiac tissue electrophysiological function in cardiac tissue engineering. In this sense, electrospun is of great significance in promoting the development of cardiac tissue engineering.

The paper was published as the inside paper in Advanced Functional Materials.
