Professor Lei Bo’s ream has made new progress in developing an intrinsically multifunctional silica-poly-based hybrid material for medical purpose. The PhD candidate Du Yuzhang published the latest findings in the prestigious chemical journal Advanced Functional Materials (the impact factor is 11.8) Development of a Multifunctional Platform Based on Strong, Intrinsically Photoluminescent and Antimicrobial Silica-Poly(citrates)-Based Hybrid Biodegradable Elastomers for Bone Regeneration. The first and correspondent author is Xi’an Jiaotong University.

The research synthesized through thermal Polymerization Technology the silica-poly-based hybrid biodegradable elastomers. The elastomers have superior mechanical strength, highly controllable photoluminescence, and intrinsic antimicrobial properties. More importantly, the material demonstrates high degradability for bone cells and therefore has bright prospect and great value in bone regeneration. The silica-poly-based hybrid elastomers are also inherently elastic, strong, luminescent and antimicrobial.
