On July 14, the PhD candidate Wei Yu, a member of Dr. Zeng Xiaoming’s research team at the Research Center for Organic Chemistry, Frontier Institute of Science and Technology published in J. Am. Chem. Soc (the impact factor is 12.113) the latest findings on Highly Selective Hydrogenation of Aromatic Ketones and Phenols Enabled by Cyclic (Amino)(alkyl)carbene Rhodium Complexes. The first and the correspondent author is Xi’an Jiaotong University.

Selective hydrogenation is one of the most important synthesis reactions in chemical industry and is widely applied in pharmacy and materials compound closely related to our life. The research team employed cyclic (Amino)(alkyl)carbene in revoking successfully the selectiveness of the chemical reaction. For the first time, the study enabled the highly selective hydrogentation of aromatic ketones and phenols and effectively retained the active carbonyl group. The catalytic system demonstrated good compatibility and could be magnified without impacting the selectiveness and retention. It provides an efficient and green synthesis approach to preparation of cyclohexanone compound in chemical industry.
