XJTU Hosts International Cooperation Group Conference on Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment
May 28th to 31st witnessed the opening of the 27th International Cooperation Group Conference on Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment, hosted by the School of Energy and Power Engineering, Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU). Over 120 representatives from 12 overseas and 15 domestic institutions and universities were engaged in. The following institutions were found among the participant list: US Berkeley State Laboratory, UC Berkeley,Yale University, Russian Nuclear Research Institute, Czekh Charles University, CAS Research Institute on High-energy Physics, Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi’an Jiaotong University, Shandong University, Taiwan University, Chinese University of Hongkong, etc.
The conference had two sessions: seminar and working conference. The seminar session discussed the development, problems and possible solutions concerning physical analysis, project appraisal of liquid scintillation and experiment operation. The working conference session reviewed the work done and planned for the next steps.
The International Cooperation Group of Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment was established in February 2006 with 41 research institutions as its members and 256 researchers. The Group has its Charter designed by international conventions. Currently, Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment is the most accurate experiment to measure neutrino oscillationθ13. The Cooperation Group guarantees the success of the experiments by regularly holding routine meetings, exchanging ideas and discussing experiment design, setup, operation, data analysis, research-related publication. On March 8th, 2012, the Cooperation Group discovered, for the first time in human history, the oscillation mode of Neutrino and the finding is listed top 10 scientific breakthroughs in the Journal Science.
XJTU got involved in the International Cooperation Group of Daya Bay Neutrino Experiment in July 2012 and this is the first time for XJTU to host the group conference. The 28th conference will be hosted by CAS Research Institute on High-energy Physics in March 2016.
