Brief Introduction of the Project “Caring for the disabled-Warm the World with Loving Heart”

Under the long-term cooperation of the Student League of Red Cross Societies, XinXin(heart) kindergarten, Xincheng District, Xian and the Thorn Birds Sunshine Home with Special Caring, Beilin District, the project of "Caring for the disabled-Warm the World with Loving Heart", a voluntary service project constantly focusing on those disabled children, was started at 2005. In light of different types and stages of the diseases, the project mainly provides medical and mental aid in a targeted manner for sick and disabled infants, mentally retarded children and autistic children. For postoperative infants, the project helps them recover and resume normal activities as soon as possible by offering professional care and early childhood education. For those mentally retarded children, the project helps them master simple skills through entertainment activities, daily care and vocational training. For the autistic children, the project helps them overcome psychological impact and by providing positive psychological guidance and care, encourages them to actively fit into society.

Over the past ten years of operation, with the close combination of professional knowledge and voluntary service, volunteers of the "Caring for the disabled-Warm the World with Loving Heart" project have provided differentiated and targeted services and helped improve lives of those children in every aspect. The total number of handicapped children they have helped is over 3000, and the total service time exceeds 50000 hours, with more than 1000 students being trained as volunteers.
