Recently, Xi'an Jiao Tong University (XJTU) Alumni Association of Greater New York announced its establishment in Manhattan. Professor Huang Wei, Dean of the School of Management, XJTU and alumnus Mr. Wang Xiang who graduated in 1983 from department of management engineering of School of Management, XJTU were elected as the first honorary chairman and chairman respectively.

On behalf of the Department of the Alumni, Professor Huang Wei, who traveled all the way to New York, read the letter of congratulation from XJTU at the establishment ceremony, congratulating on the establishment of the Alumni Association of Greater New York, extending best regards to all the alumni who are currently in Greater New York, and conveying respect and thanks to those alumni who hosted and contributed to the preparation work of the establishment.

On behalf of the Alumni Association of Shanghai, alumnus Wang Taihua, the vice secretary, read a letter of congratulation. Additionally, the Xi'an Hi-tech Zone Management Committee as well as other alumni associations fromboth home and abroad such as Beijing, Henan province, Guangdong province, Shenzhen, Dalian and Vancouver all sent letters of congratulations, expressing hope that alumni from all over the world keep the gratitude to XJTU in mind and make progress together in making contributions to serving the alumni, develop the spirit of XJTU and promote its influence.

In 2016, XJTU will be celebrating its 120thbirthday as well as its 60th anniversary of relocation. The establishment of the Alumni Association of Greater New York was a favorable opportunity. With the association in place, alumni in Greater New York can better assist the Department of Alumni in the establishment of XJTU Alumni Association of America so as to make greater contributions to the Alma mater in 2016, thereby promoting the cooperation between alumni associations all over the world in serving the alumni, the alma mater and the society more extensively and deeply. Earlier this year, alumnus Wang Changxiang paid a visit to XJTU, met with Professor Wang Yingluo, president Wang Shuguo, vice president Xi Guangfu and chiefs of the Department of the Alumni, and exchanged views with them on issues like construction of alumni associations and the role of overseas alumni in promoting the development of XJTU.
