An eight-person delegation of Australia Chinese Association of Biomedical Sciences (ACABS) led by ACABS Chairman Ou Ruchong visited XJTU at the invitation of Vice President Yan Hong. On the morning of November 24th, the MOU signing ceremony of the two parties was held in the Multi-functional Hall of DMS.

The XJTU representatives who attended the ceremony were Vice President Yan and DMS Director, Geng Jianping, Member of Standing Committee and DMS Party Secretary, Huang Xianghuai and He Langchong, DMS Deputy Director, heads of administrative departments. The ceremony was chaired by Lv Yi, President Assistant and DMS Deputy Director.

Deputy Director He and Chairman Ou co-signed the MOU on behalf of the two parties. Taking into consideration the needs of building a strong team in medical sciences, potential cooperation is crystallized on the basis of a thorough discussion. DMS will take ASABS as a platform for putting up recruitment notices with an aim to attract talents to join XJTU in the development of medical sciences. Supported by the close relationship between ASABS universities in Australia, DMS will also be devoted to promoting collaboration with higher institutions in Australia in forms of faculty and student exchange. Both the two parties will actively participate in potential cooperation to resolve the edge-cutting problems in biomedical sciences.

Vice President Yan bestowed the XJTU Guest Professorship Certification to the eight visiting scholars: Ou Ruchong, Zhu Hongjian, Ding Changhai, Xu Xinqing, Chen Weisan, Yan Bingbing, Xiao Junhua and Liu Jianzhong. Chairman Ou delivered a speech saying that ACABS and XJTU first encountered each other in 2005 and active interaction began since then. He hoped that the two parties would upgrade the cooperation by the agreement signing. "The honorary professorship labels us as XJTU members and we will strive for the talent training, team-building and research with DMS fellows. We will also serve as a bridge for building connection and developing cooperation between DMS and higher institutions in Australia." Ou said.

Vice President Yan extended his warm welcome and sincere gratitude to all the guests. He introduced the structure, organization, and overview of DMS. He mentioned that XJTU made a series of important work arrangements focused on the national actions for innovative development and mid-term and long-term development scheme for talent cultivation. DMS, as an important section of XJTU, embraces an opportunity for participating in setting up Science and Technology Innovation Harbor under the guidance of XJTU. Vice President Yan hoped that down-to-earth cooperation will soon be underway under the framework of the agreement and DMS's cooperation mode with ACABS will become a model for its cooperation with partners in Europe and North America.

Later, the visiting experts gave presentations on their research. Academic dialogues were also conducted with XJTU faculties from DMS School of Public Health, School of Pharmacy, XJTU No. 1 and No. 2 Affiliated Hospital for idea exchange on the following subjects: donor heart protection in transplantation, intensity of TGF-β transmission and cancer, clinical epidemiology research on osteoarthritis, research on medullary sheath and neurokines, research on ocular prosthesis, food and nutrition, etc.

ACABS was established in June, 2014 as a national organization with its headquarter in Melbourne, Australia. Branch associations were also set up in every state in Australia. ACABS keeps a close and extensive relationship with local governments. Its members mainly include Australia Chinese scholars who play an active role in biology and medical science in universities and research institutes. ACABS aims to build liaison among Australia Chinese biomedical peers, to provide all-round service to the researchers in the field and to develop cooperation and exchange with scholars from other countries in biomedical sciences.
