The 5th International Conference on "Nutrition and Physical Activity on Aging, Obesity and Cancer" Held in XJTU

The fifth International Conference on "Nutrition and Physical Activity on Aging, Obesity and Cancer" was held in XJTU from November 15 to 17. The conference was jointly hosted by XJTU and Tianjin University of Sport (TJUS). It was co-chaired by Professor Liu Jiankang from the XJTU School of Life Science and Technology and TJUS Professor Zhang Yong. Nearly 100 experts and scholars from China, America, Japan, Korea, Australia, Switzerland, Hong Kong and Taiwan participated in and together they discussed the research progress and trends on nutrition, physical activity and health.

XJTU Vice President Rong Mingzhe attended the conference and delivered a speech. He warmly welcomed all the representatives, and then reviewed the over 100-years' development of XJTU. He also briefed on the achievements XJTU got in research and education, and outlined its international cooperation and exchange, emphasizing the importance of communication and mutual inspiration stimulation among the overseas scholars and those in China. He expressed that XJTU would continually set platforms and promote the exchange and cooperation among the universities and research institutes both in and out of China. He hoped that the development of life science would be boosted by organizing academic activities like high-level international conferences.

The conference was focused on the discussion of five themes including nutrition and tumor, nutrition and metabolic diseases, aging and aging-related diseases, physical activity and nutrition and cell signal channel. The experts delivered wonderful keynote speeches on their latest research results and discussed the newest progress and trends of nutrition and physical activity in delaying aging and relevant diseases. They also summarized the problems and challenges of nutrition and physical activity in postponing metabolic diseases, aging and relevant diseases.

It was worthy to be mentioned that the conference not only covered the speeches by famous experts, two tailored meetings for young scholars were also set, which provided a rare exchange and study chance for young scholars and doctoral students.

The conference provided a worldwide platform of academic talk and discussion. The speeches were wonderful, showing a professional atmosphere and receiving positive feedbacks from the attendees. The conference powerfully pushed the scientific research of XJTU in biomedicine and also promoted its cooperation and exchange with international peers. The conference facilitated in upgrading the international influence of XJTU in the relevant disciplines.
