A summary paper entitled "Self-Healing Gelsbased on Constitutional Dynamic Chemistry and Their Potential Applications" whose first author was a doctoral student Wei Zhao from professor Chen Yongmei's research group was published officially on the authoritative review journal in the field of chemistry—Chemical Society Review (2014, 43 (23): 8114 – 8131), the flagship journal of British Royal Chemistry Society withthe impact factor being 30.425 in 2014.

As a kind of macromolecule intelligent material, self-healing gel has important scientific sense and a broad application prospect in the biomedicine fields like histoengineering, the control release of medicine and cell therapy and in the fields of engineering technology like coating and sealed damage restoration. The paper systematically summarized the current research situation of the self-healing gel material and forecasted the future development.

In recent years, under the support of the National Key Laboratory of the Strength and Vibration of Machinery Structure and the Strength of Metal Material, Chen Yongmei's research group centrally studied the design preparation of new flexible materials including self-healing water gel, shining water gel, magnet water gel, high strength water gel and ion liquid gel and their application in cell culture bracket, sewage treatment and flexible appliances. They published many papers on the magazines like Green Chem. ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces, Macromol. Rapid Commun. and J. Biomed. Mater. Res. A successively, got 7 authorized Chinese patents and formed the research direction of featured "flexible" intelligent materials. They built a long-term stable cooperation relationship with professor Osada Yoshihito from Japanese RIKEN, professor Miklós Zrínyi from Hungarian Semmelweis University and professor Patrick H. Dussault and professor Li Tan from American University of Nebraska-Lincoln and their research teams.

The research work was funded by the National Natural Fund, the Start-up Fund for the Research of Returnees of the Ministry of Education, Shaanxi Province Science and Technology Research Development Plan project, the Key Science and Technology Innovation Team of Shaanxi Province and the special fund for the basic research operation fee of central universities and supported by Suzhou Nanoscience and Technology Coordination Innovation Center.
