The International Academic Conference on Condition Monitoring and Diagnosis in 2014 (CMD2014) was held inJeju Island of Korea from September 21 to 25. CMD conference is held biennially. It is supported by the international academic organizations like IEEE, IEEE DEIS,CIGRE and IET and is one of the international academic conferences that has the highest level in the field of equipment condition detection and fault diagnosis. The main aim of the conference was to push the technical development of the condition detection and fault diagnosis of power system. It attracted 287 specialists from 28 countries and regions in the world to attend to conference. Led by professor Rong Mingzhe and professor Li Shengtao from the School of Life Science and Technology, over 20 teachers and students of XJTU attended the conference. The attendees warmly discussed the latest research results in the aspect of equipment condition detection and fault diagnosis technology of power system, industrial application and further development direction and exchanged their ideas.

Rong Mingzhe, Li Shengtao, Wu Kai, Zhang Guanjun, Wang Xiaohua and Dong Ming reported the latest progress in discharging features and the electric charge on the surface of insulative materials, new insulative nanomaterials and the new technology of insulative diagnosis at the conference and got relatively high evaluation of peers at home and abroad. The teachers and students in attendance and the peers at home and abroad deeply discussed and exchanged their ideas so their academic ken and thought were expanded.

As the chairman of next CMD conference, professor Li Shengtao summarized the conference. He pointed out that the success of this conference greatly promoted the result exchange between the scholars and manufacturing enterprises in the field of equipment condition detection and fault diagnosis of worldwide power system and played an important role in boosting the further development of the field. Meanwhile, he warmly invited the peers in attendance to go to Xi'an to attend the next CMD conference (CMD2016).
