On the afternoon of October 17, the school-opening ceremony for the new foreign students in 2014 was held in room 101 of the Science Hall. Vice Party secretary Gong Hui delivered a speech and welcomed 310 foreign students from 62 countries of five continents on behalf of XJTU.

In his speech, vice secretary Gong Hui congratulated the foreign students on starting their life journey in XJTU. They brought diverse cultures to XJTU. He hoped that the foreign students would integrate into the campus life of XJTU soon. He told the new students that thelife in XJTU would be rich with various courses. They will meet good teachers and helpful friends in their life. While the students gradually master more knowledge and skills, know more about Chinese culture and observe the world by wide ken, they begin to write their own life story. Every foreign student who studies in XJTU with dreams is the elite and future of XJTU. He hoped that the dreams of the foreign students could be realized together with Chinese dream. Finally, Secretary Gong wished that the foreign students would study, do research and live smoothly in China. Gong hoped that he could share the beautiful memory of foreign students on studying in XJTU at the graduation ceremony.

The president of the School of Energy and Power Engineering Feng Zhenping delivered a speech on behalf of teachers. He welcomed the foreign students to enter XJTU to study. Especially, he welcomed the 18 foreign students who would study in the School of Energy and Power Engineering. President Feng introduced the history and position among Chinese universities and world universitiesof XJTU. He said that the foreign students and their parents chose to study in XJTU was a correct choice. And he earnestly thanked all the foreign students and their parents for trusting XJTU. He hoped that the students would begin their study life of new stage with the expectation of their parents and their own wishes. He warned the students that the competition was veryfierce in the era when the science and technology developed very fast. Studying in China is not only to get diplomas and academic degrees. Healthy growth and studying advanced knowledge skills are more important. This will be a key stage of life. So the students should form good behaviors and habits, raise responsibility sense, continually upgrade and improve lifetime studying capacity and face challenges bravely, and being good at innovation and team cooperation is the firm foundation of enriching life. Professor Feng suggested that the new students form high quality study life from scratch, distinguish senior middle schools and universities, know how to make use of the spare time in universities, how to set targets for themselves and how to realize the targets. He hoped that the new students and graduate students would study diligently and work hard with vigor, initiative and creativity.

The vice standing president of the School of International Education Song Yuxia welcomed the foreign students to come on behalf of the School of International Education. She introduced the long history, picturesque scenery, traditional culture and countless delicious food of Shaanxi with PPT. She introduced the main work, establishment, functions of departments, rules and regulations, lodging conditions and students' activities of the School of International Education that was a comprehensive management department of XJTU in charge of foreign students' work.

At the ceremony, the new foreign student from India Saad Khan delivered a speech on behalf of the new students in 2014 and expressed that he thought it was an honor to come to China and to study in XJTU. Later, the foreign studentwho registered in 2013 from Brazil Fatima Shabib made a speech in fluent Chinese on behalf of old students and shared his study and life experiences as well asthe pleasure brought by Chinese and Chinese culture after he studied in the School of International Education for more than one year.

At the school-opening ceremony, policeman Liu Yu from the Department of Entry and Exit Administration of Xi’an Municipal Public Security Bureau introduced the laws and regulations of China. In recent years, because foreign students were not familiar with Chinese laws and regulations on foreigners, there were a lot of illegal phenomena so he mainly introduced “the Law on Foreigners’ Administration”. Policeman Liu introduced the problems like the visas of foreign students, the application of residence permission, lodging registration, the reapplying and exchange of lost and damaged passports and the relevant stipulations of China on off-campus lodging, working and religion belief in detail. Policeman Liu explained how foreign students should obey Chinese laws and regulations, comply with social morality and customs and habits, how to raise security prevention consciousness, protect the personal safety and the safety of property and how to report to the police and ask for help in detail in connection with the cases related to foreign students that happened in recent years.

The people who also attended the school-opening ceremony were: the vice president of the School of Mechanical Engineering Li Bing and vice party secretary Wang Zhaohui, the vice party secretary of the School of Electric Engineering Hu Jianping, the vice party secretary of the School of Electronic and Information Engineering Shi Feng, the director of the Talent Training Office of the Department of Medicine Wu Xiaojian and the vice president of the School of International Education Fang Yu. The ceremony was chaired by the president assistant of the School of International Education.

The school-opening ceremony was closed in the warm applause of students and the resonant school song of XJTU.
