On the morning of September 18, the 2010 Nobel Prize winner of chemistry, Professor Suzuki visited XJTU and was named as XJTU honorary professor. He was also an honorary professor of Hokkaido University.

President Wang Shuguo met the visiting guest in Room 107 of the Science Hall. He reviewed the joint projects co-conducted by XJTU and Hokkaido University, hoping that the cooperation could be refined and the substantial cooperation and exchange projects could be expanded to activities such as joint training and research. Professor Suzuki introduced the structure and organization of the 12 schools and departments of Hokkaido University including science, agriculture and medicine, etc. He hoped that in the future Hokkaido University would have more exchange and cooperation with XJTU. Vice President Lu Tianjian, the heads of School of Science, Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges and Graduate School attended the meeting.

President Wang awarded the appointment certificate of XJTU Honorary Professor to Professor Suzuki.

After the meeting, Professor Suzuki delivered a wonderful speech and actively interacted with the faculties and students. H e introduced the cross coupling reaction of palladium catalysis in detail. The chemical tool greatly promotes the possibility of making complex chemical materials such as carbon-based molecule. Its complexity can be as good as that of natural molecules. He also introduced the selection, participation of alkali, solvent selection and catalyst of the reaction and the reaction mechanism. He said that the application of the discovery was very broad, included the industries like medicines and electronic industry. Professor Suzuki introduced the process of attending the Nobel Prize awarding ceremony. After the speech professor Suzuki warmly answered the questions raised by students on the intermolecular and intramolecular reaction of palladium catalysis cross coupling reaction.

Later, Professor Suzuki talked and exchange ideas with the teachers and students. He introduced his research field and development in organic synthesis and shared his valuable research experiences and suggestions. Professor said to the students, "For research, never give up, try hard, be adaptable, and try to get the problems resolved by new means if needed". He also briefly introduced undergraduate, master and doctor study system in Japan, pointing out that the important task of university students was to get the philosophy of problem resolution by the systematic knowledge acquisition.

Professor Suzuki was interviewed by the reporters of the XJTU News Agency during his stay in Xi'an.
