On the afternoon of May 26, Rector of Italy's Politecnico di Bari, Professor Eugenio Di Sciascio and Deputy Rector Professor Vito Albino visited XJTU. Vice president Lu Tianjian met with the visiting guests in Science Hall.

At the meeting, the two parties introduced to each other the history of their respective institutions, curricula, relative strength of various disciplines and the cooperation between universities and regional enterprises. Vice President Lu pointed out that the curricula of the two universities are similar, and that this provides a good opportunity for developing cooperation and exchange programs in a variety of fields. He said he hoped that the two schools could develop a friendly relationship in which to conduct the exchanges of teachers and students. Deputy Rector Vito said he looked very favorably on the idea of developing cooperation and exchange programs between the two universities and that he welcomed the teachers and students of XJTU to go to Politecnico di BARI.

Vice President Lu also said that XJTU attributes a great deal of importance to international cooperation and is committed to expanding and improving its programs for international cooperation. He stressed that XJTU is devoting itself to providing more opportunities for its undergraduates and graduate students to participate in international exchanges. At the same time, it intends to send more teachers, especially excellent young teachers, abroad to research and study.
