On the afternoon of November 8, a 16-member delegation from the Senate of the state of California, led by its President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, visited XJTU. Vice President Lu Tianjian welcomed the members of the delegation in room 107 of the Science Hall. The two parties discussed possibilities for cooperation in the fields of education and economics between the two countries, both at the national level and at the state/provincial level. The Director of Department of International Cooperation and Exchange Dr. Liang Li attended the meeting.

President pro Tem Steinberg said that it was a great honor for him and for the members of the delegation to visit XJTU. He added that this visit would surely deepen the California government's understanding of China, especially with regard to higher education in Shaanxi province and would stimulate further cooperation between the two parties.

In the discussion which followed, the parties exchanged ideas on the challenges and opportunities faced by China at the current stage of its development, especially in the areas of higher education and scientific research.
