How do you eat zongzi for the Dragon Boat Festival? In Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, the answer is: with yogurt!

Take a soft, sticky rice dumpling, gently press it flat with a wooden spatula, spread a thick layer of Xinjiang's traditional yogurt on it, drizzle it with honey, then top it with your favorite fruit jam — fig, blueberry, kiwi, or rose jam — anything goes! Sometimes, a sprinkle of crushed nuts too. Soft, sticky, tangy, sweet and crunchy — all in one bite.

This yogurt-topped zongzi is a common street snack in Xinjiang year-round, not just during the Dragon Boat Festival. Cold, tangy, and sweet, it holds a comforting taste of summer.
