Gree Electric Appliances topped the global air-conditioner industry in 2018 with a market share of 20.6 percent, according to the Survey of Market Share for Major Global Goods and Services recently released by Nihon Keizai Shimbun (Japan Economics Newspaper).

Nihon Keizai Shimbun is one of world's largest financial newspapers and boasts a daily circulation of more than three million. It analyzed the market share of 74 categories of commodities in 2018 based on data from authoritative research institutes. Midea Group and Haier Group were rated 2nd and 3rd with a respective market share of 14.7 percent and 10.8 percent.

Behind Gree's success is its persistent pursuit of core technology through independent innovation. The company now possesses 15 research academies, 94 research institutions, two academician workstations, a state key laboratory, a national engineering technology research center, a national industrial design center, a nationally recognized technology center, and a robot engineering technology research center.

To date, Gree has applied for 51,664 patents. It has mastered 24 international leading technologies, as well as received two National Science & Technology Progress Awards and one State Technological Invention Award.
