Fujian marks sound growth in exports, imports with ASEAN countries

Statistics from Xiamen Customs show that the export-import value between East China's Fujian province and ASEAN countries reached 19.64 billion yuan ($2.76 billion) in August, increasing 2.2 percent year on year. 

Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam were the province's three major trading partners, accounting for 64.6 percent of its total export-import value. Indonesia contributed 4.64 billion yuan with a year-on-year growth of 0.8 percent; the Philippines rose 8.8 percent to 4.55 billion yuan; while Vietnam's decreased 7 percent to 3.5 billion yuan. 

Cambodia recorded 300 million yuan, a surge of 44.3 percent. 

Labor-intensive products, covering fields like clothing, shoes, bags, furniture, plastics and toys, were one of the major exports from Fujian increasing by 18.5 percent to 4.45 billion yuan. Mechanical and electrical products, another major export, rose 0.6 percent to 3.61 billion yuan. 

Imports from ASEAN countries were mainly mechanical and electrical products, agricultural products, coal and natural gas, which contributed 2.03 billion, 990 million, 870 million and 780 million yuan, respectively.
