The 2024 World Internet Conference (WIC) Light of Internet Expo emerged as a pivotal showcase of artificial intelligence (AI)'s transformative power, bringing together 665 companies from 53 countries in a groundbreaking demonstration of technological innovation and global collaboration.
The expo marked a critical juncture in the WIC's 11-year history, which ran from Nov 19 to 22 in Wuzhen, East China’s Zhejiang province, and centered on the theme "Embracing a People-Centered and AI-for-Good Digital Future - Building a Community with a Shared Future in Cyberspace."
Large language models from Chinese companies took center stage, introducing sophisticated AI-driven hiring solutions that promise to revolutionize talent recruitment. Unitree's humanoid robots captured significant attention, highlighting the rapid advancement of robotic technologies that blur the lines between human and machine capabilities.
The event distinguished itself through an unprecedented integration of AI across multiple sectors, revealing technologies that are reshaping agricultural, cybersecurity, and cultural landscapes. Robotic systems demonstrated remarkable efficiency, with agricultural robots capable of grafting 700 plants per hour at a 98-percent success rate, while interactive AI experiences allowed visitors to engage directly with cutting-edge technological innovations.
China Unicom emerged as a key player, unveiling its Yuanjing Large Language Model that showcases AI's potential in network security and data governance. The company's comprehensive approach included developing a cyberspace security situation awareness platform serving over 2,000 internal and external units, alongside a groundbreaking telecommunications network fraud governance platform.
The expo's innovative structure featured five sections: a main exhibition area, new product launches, an industry talent fair, strategic matchmaking events, and a 'Xinguang' (innovative) products showcase. Five specialized exhibition routes offered visitors personalized journeys through the technological landscape, including digital intelligence insights, scientific exploration, and future life experiences.
Industry opportunities flourished, with over 500 job positions announced by 50 technology enterprises, accompanied by 100 new product and technology releases. The event transcended traditional technology conferences, creating a dynamic ecosystem of innovation and collaboration.
The human element behind these technological marvels was another noteworthy feature. From AI-powered interview assistants to humanoid robots that can interact with visitors, the expo illustrated a future where technology and human potential converge in unprecedented ways.
The 2024 WIC Light of Internet Expo demonstrated that the future of technology is not something to anticipate, but something we are actively creating—a future that belongs to everyone.
