World Internet Conference (WIC) serves as an international platform for global cooperation and aims to ensure Artificial Intelligence (AI) will benefit people worldwide, as stated by a WIC representative at a seminar on AI industry applications held by the WIC on Sept 27 in Beijing.
More than 60 experts and scholars from AI-related international organizations, universities, think tanks, and leading enterprises participated both online and offline, engaging in in-depth discussions on AI applications, technology developing trends, and the establishment of the WIC Specialized Committee on Artificial Intelligence (SC on AI).

At the seminar, a representative from the WIC introduced the preparatory progress and future plans of the SC on AI. Participants shared insights from their practical experiences regarding AI technology trends, applications and challenges, offering recommendations for the committee on using AI to facilitate digital and intelligent transformation across various sectors.
During the discussion session, participants exchanged their research focus on AI application and its integration across industries, drawing on their professional expertise and the specific contexts of their organizations. Noting the committee’s research and collaborative efforts in building a robust AI industry ecosystem, they suggested leveraging the role of the committee as a professional platform to pool wisdom from government departments, industry, academia, and research institutes, and foster cross-industry exchanges, to promote AI integration for sustainable development under the principle of “AI for Good.”
Speakers at the seminar included Xie Dong, VP of R&D Labs and CTO of IBM GCG; Sun Maosong, executive vice dean of the Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Tsinghua University and foreign member, Academia Europaea; Yuan Yuan, dean of Alibaba Research Institute; and Li Ruicheng, SAP Global SVP and MD of SAP Labs China.
Representatives from various organizations, including the Arab ICT Organization, Pakistan Information Security Association, and research institutes and universities like China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, Nankai University, Renmin University, as well as companies including Cisco Systems, Nokia Shanghai Bell, Yinxiang Biji, Tencent, Huawei, 360 Group, China Unicom, iFLYTEK, HONOR, Weibo, DAS-Security, Lenovo, 01.AI, PCITECH, ModelBest joined the discussion.
The World Internet Conference (WIC) was established as an international organization on July 12, 2022, headquartered in Beijing, China. It was jointly initiated by Global System for Mobile Communication Association (GSMA), National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team/Coordination Center of China (CNCERT), China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), Alibaba Group, Tencent, and Zhijiang Lab.
