Over these years, Xiqing district has attached great importance to water environment management projects and has effectively addressed water pollution issues through the construction of a series of engineering projects.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25), Xiqing has invested a total of 620 million yuan (about $85.14 million) to implement water ecological enhancement projects.
Three artificial wetlands have been constructed in the region to further improve the local water carrying capacity and effectively purify the surface water in the area.

The ecological restoration project located along the Duliujian River is estimated to reduce chemical oxygen demand by 3,240 tons and biochemical oxygen demand by 1,590 tons annually. The project area also includes the planting of various trees, shrubs, ground cover plants, and aquatic plants, providing habitats for migratory birds. Currently, nearly a hundred species of wild birds have been observed in the wetland.

Moreover, in order to further promote the environmental management of the Duliujian River, Xiqing district has included Wangwenzhuang town’s water environment restoration project in this year’s district-level project for the benefit of the local people. It will focus on the water system connection and the construction of an artificial wetland.
"This project is not only a project for the benefit of the people but also an important project for the improvement of water ecology. Going forward, we will continue to promote the project to ensure its scheduled completion," said Jia Baoliang, deputy director of the Water Ecology and Environment Division of Xiqing.
