Famille rose porcelain is a variety of overglaze painted porcelain with Wucai (famille verte), drawing. It was first created in the later years of Emperor Kangxi's reign in the Qing Dynasty, flourished during the reign of Qing emperors Yongzheng and Qianlong, and continues to develop to this day. What is very unique about famille rose is that a white color material called "glass white" is added in the color materials in the production. Since the "glass white" contains arsenic that causes turbidity of color effect, the color materials with "glass white" look in pink.
The basic production method of famille rose porcelain is to draw patterns on the surface of white-glazed porcelain, paint with colored materials, and then fired for a second time.
