In March, China Tianjin Wuqing Development Area and Tianjin University jointly established the Tianjin University Advanced Research Institute of Synthetic Biology, with a total investment of 300 million yuan (about $41.17 million). Based on the interdisciplinary advantages of Tianjin University's synthetic biology team, the institute mainly focuses on basic research in synthetic biology, cultivates innovative talents, and promotes the construction of GLP experimental animal center, artificial cell factory construction platform, and bio-synthesis full-process automation platform.
"The cooperation between China Tianjin Wuqing Development Area and Tianjin University is based on a solid foundation. The establishment of the institute marks a new phase of comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two parties in innovation, entrepreneurship, and achievement conversion. The first phase of the institute covers an area of 22,689.7 square meters, and the second phase covers approximately 3,590 square meters. After completion, it will promote the implementation of more scientific and technological achievements in Wuqing district, and promote the high-end, large-scale, and intensive development of the synthetic biology industry," said a spokesperson from China Tianjin Wuqing Development Area.
