The Great Wall Marathon is an annual marathon race along the Huangyaguan, Tianjin section of the Great Wall of China. Since its inception in 1999, the race has grown to several hundred participants, of whom 90 percent are from overseas. The course is much tougher than traditional marathons, with participants challenged by 5,164 stone steps and many steep ascents and descents.

Originally constructed during the Northen Qi Dynasty (550-557) and it was repaired by General Qi Jiguang in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Construction of the temple dates back to the Tang dynasty - but unfortunately no structure from the Tang dynasty has stood the test of time.
