The total retail sales of consumer goods in Xiamen amounted to 154.24 billion yuan ($21.96 billion) in 2018, growing by 6.6 percent compared to 2017. The turnover of the retail sector was 137.16 billion yuan, rising by 5.9 percent, and that of the catering sector was 7.8 billion yuan, up by 9.3 percent.
In 2018, the urban residents' per capita disposable income reached 50,900, up by 9.3 percent. The consumption expenditure per capita was RMB 33,192, an increase of 9.3 percent. Steady growth was seen in the consumption of everyday goods, such as food, clothing and housing. And the more dynamic driving forces behind the growth were the consumption of products and services making life more enjoyable, including transportation, telecommunications, education and cultural activities.
In 2018, the price of goods in Xiamen, in general terms, increased by 1.8 percent over that of 2017.
