Xiamen starts Cross-Straits ocean express deliveries
When the passenger ship carrying a lot of express cargo from Taiwan to Xiamen docked in Xiamen, the morning of July 31, it marked a dramatic beginning for express deliveries between Fujian province and Taiwan.
This first load of cross-Straits express goods consisted mainly of clothing, foodstuff and e-business products, which will travel from Xiamen to the rest of the mainland and, thanks to government assistance, will clear Customs within 4 hours, or just about as efficiently as air deliveries.
When this cross-Straits express delivery business got Customs approval this past February, it made Xiamen the first city on the mainland to handle this kind of transaction, with such a comprehensive network.
Zhang Canmin, Xiamen’s deputy mayor, led Xiamen’s trade delegation present at startupceremony held in Taichung, an important city of Taiwan, on July 30.

Why Xiamen
-
Xiamen is one of the most economically competitive cities in China and was one of the first Special Economic Zones on the Chinese mainland. As a vice-provincial city independently listed on the State development plan, it has provincial-level authority in economic administration and local legislative power. In 2010, the Xiamen SEZ was expanded to cover the entire municipality. Today, Xiamen is a modern and international port city.
